Backslash Lit Issue 6: CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS & EVENT SCHEDULE

CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS

Dear readers,

Our zine is back! Yesterday, we opened submissions for Issue 6 (Winter 2021-22) under the theme "ZIP / FREEZE BUNDLE." Whatever the weather in your area, whether you are welcoming winter or summer in the coming month, we are seeking your creative work until February 4, 2022.

Review our submission guidelines below and send us your code art, interactive fiction, sound installations, multimedia creations, generative texts, and beyond for consideration in the sixth issue of Backslash Lit.

EVENTS

This winter, we'll also be inviting three guest presenters to host virtual creative coding workshops during the submission window. Tickets to all events are available for free on our Eventbrite page. The first of these events will be happening NEXT WEEK—sign up now!

NEXT WEEK: DECEMBER 11, 2021 (1-2 PM ET)
Radical Glitch Bot Workshop with Sade Arellano

Using text generator bots we will together as a group collect data from our dreams, myths and memories to reimagine shared cosmologies and prophecies of our near or distant futures. Learn the basics of chatbot creation that can be used for Telegram, Twitter or Mastodon, and collaborative story telling with other humans and machines.

JANUARY 8, 2022 (1-2 PM ET)
p5.js Workshop with Hetvi

Learn about the history of generative art, and try creative coding using a beginner-friendly javascript library- p5.js, and using pixel-level manipulations to create art using shaders. During this workshop, we'll respond to some recent and not-so-recent generative artworks, and use our responses to execute simple experiments in p5.js and GLSL.

JANUARY 8, 2022 (1-2 PM ET)
Sonic Pi Scavenger Hunt with Raia

Discover the "wonderful" world of buggy code in live coded music. Learn skills to resolve errors in real time, while jamming to raia's latest currents.fm playlist.
